Costa Rica - Oasis Highlights

There are so many highlights in this fascinating country that it is impossible to list them all here. Our travel consultants will discuss your interests and be able to put a specific itinerary together for you, but below are a few must seeā€™s!

Osa Peninsula

The Corcovado National Park and Osa Peninsula should be the lead destination on any itinerary to Costa Rica ā€œthe most biologically intense place on earthā€ according to National Geographic. The rainforest boasts an extraordinary array of flora and fauna with over 350 recorded species of birds and 140 species of mammals including puma and jaguar. Off shore, the bio-diversity is no less rich. Coral reefs envelop deserted islands while tropical bays harbour migrating whales. Simply dazzling!

San Gerardo de Dota

Monteverde Cloudforest Reserve is famous the world over and attracts thousands of visitors each year. In comparison, the cloud-forest of San Gerardo de Dota is unknown outside birding circles and is a wonderful alternative for those looking to avoid the tourist paraphernalia. The pristine forest is home to countless species of birds and is one of the best spots for observing Costa Ricaā€™s emblematic Quetzal.

Mount Chirripo

Adding an element of adventure to your itinerary is a wonderful addition to any trip. Costa Rica offers everything from hiking, rafting and riding to zip-lining and canopy adventures. Yet for serious walkers, the 2 day/1 night hike up Mount Chirripo is unmissable. Mount ChirripĆ³ is the countryā€™s highest mountain at 3700m above sea level, a beautiful, forested peak from where, on good days, both the Pacific and Caribbean coast are visible. The trek involves an overnight in a simple mountain hut beneath the summit, although be warned – you will need to book well in advance!

Manuel Antonio

Gorgeous beaches and tropical rainforests, Manuel Antonio is the epitome of Costa Rica and offers the perfect combination of wildlife and R&R for couples and families alike. Best of all, it is in easy access of San Jose and for travellers with limited time, it combines beautifully with the volcanoes of the central highlands to give a wonderful overview of Costa Rica.

Nicaragua Extension

Costa Rica offers everything ā€“ wildlife, rainforest, beaches, volcanoes and adventure ā€“ bar colonial cities and indigenous culture and this is what makes Nicaragua such an enticing extension. Just a short distance across the border, Granada is one of Central Americaā€™s most attractive colonial cities, founded in 1524 on the banks of Lake Nicaragua facing the imposing Volcano Masaya. Explore the cobbled streets, take a boat trip to small island communities or hike up a volcano – Nicaragua is a wonderful compliment to Costa Rica and you need only allow a minimum of three extra days.
