Traffic, general chaos, swish bars and clubs, more millionaires than any other city, pollution, colonial relics, ancient bazaars and the worldā€™s biggest film industry make up the enigmatic city of Mumbai.

Previously known as Bombay, it is the capital city of the Indian state of Maharashtra, the fourth most heavily populated city in the world the most populous city in India with an estimated 20.5 million people. Mumbai has developed an impressive tourist infrastructure with a wide selection of accommodation to appeal to all levels of traveller and includes some of the most elegant 5-star hotels in the country. The city came into being with the merger of seven islands namely, Isle of Bombay, Colaba, Mazagaon, Old Woman’s Island, Worli, Parel, and Salsette Island. The ā€œIsland Cityā€ is divided into two different regions, one the actual city itself and the other, its suburbs.
