Hiroshima

Japan - Hiroshima and Southern Japan

Perhaps more than any city in the world, Hiroshima is famous for one moment in history. An American B-29 bomber named Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb on August 6, 1945, turning the city into a nuclear inferno and killing an estimated 140,000 in the final chapter of World War II.

However, Hiroshima has risen like a phoenix from the ashes and rebuilt itself as one of Japan’s most laid-back, vibrant cities full of wide boulevards, art museums, great food, and friendly, welcoming people. Hiroshima is also home to the ā€œokonomiyakiā€ (derived from the word okonomi, meaning “what you like” or “what you want”, and yaki, meaning “grilled” or “cooked”), a Japanese superb savoury pancake containing a variety of ingredients.
