Located just 32 km east of Kathmandu, Nagarkot offers unrestricted views of the mighty Himalayan mountain range from the Annapurna west to the mighty Everest east.

Nagarkot was historically a place for the Nepalese royal family to escape the sweltering summer heat and Kathmandu’s chaotic, frantic life. In 1960, intrepid travellers (mainly explorers and hippies) would battle the mountain winds and sleepless nights to see astounding sunrise and sunsets. Still, nowadays, modern travellers head to Nagarkot to enjoy the picturesque rural scenery of terraced rice fields, green pastures, sunrises, and sunsets from the luxury of comfortable hotels.

The town is 2200m above sea level, ideal for acclimatisation if you go to high-altitude treks or Tibet or Bhutan. It is a perfect base for Mountain biking or hiking to Changunarayan, Bhaktapur or Swayambhu.
