Berat

Located 120 km from Tirana, Berat is a fusion of Eastern and Western cultures, traditions, costumes, and perspectives. The city is a treasure trove of Albanian culture and history, showcasing the nation’s commitment to religious harmony. Berat has its origins in the 6th-5th century B.C. as an Illyrian settlement. Later, in the 3rd century B.C., it became a castle city known as Antipatrea. The castle thrived, particularly under the feudal dominion of the Muzakaj family, and within its walls, churches with valuable frescoes, icons, and a calligraphy school were established. It is remarkable that people still reside within the castle walls to this day.
