Tipaza rolls quietly downhill through tall pine trees to a tiny beach and azure-silvered sea.

Stand and admire the honey-toned sandstone walls, and the noteworthy amphitheatre where naval battles were re-enacted and the remnants of lively markets where fish were gutted and sold makes Tipasa stand out as one of North Africa’s most beautiful Roman sites.

It’s a shame the surrounding structure has almost disappeared, but its the oval walls of the arena describe the area where brutal gladiator fights and naval battles were held in the fourth and five centuries.
