Djemila

Algeria - Northeast Algeria

Djemila, situated in the mountains some 30 miles from Setif, is one of North Africa’s most impressive sites. The wheel-rutted streets of the ancient town called Cuicul were founded by Nerva to house his veterans, are lined with two flora and a clutch of elaborate houses, churches and temples.

A must see is Djemila’s beautiful museum, where every square inch of its massive walls are plastered with mosaics.

Walk around these breathtaking ruins, they are all that remains of the ancient Roman town, tucked quietly into the strikingly beautiful Petite Kabylie hills, this is the mix of Roman ingenuity and African spender.
