San Martin de los Andes

Argentina - Northern Patagonia

Deep in the lush, forested mountains and hills of Argentinaā€™s northern Lake District, San Martin de los Andes is a pretty, resort town overlooking the sparkling waters of Lake Lacar.

Smaller and more exclusive than Bariloche, San Martin hosts a good mix of lodges and swiss-alpine style hotels and is an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding national parks. Close by, the magnificent Lanin Volcano and National Park reveal excellent walking and riding trails while the majestic Lake Huechulafquen stretches out under the snowy peaks and attracts fly-fishermen and paddlers alike. Chileā€™s adventure capital Pucon lies just across the Andes linked by lonely mountain roads shrouded in monkey puzzle trees ā€“ perfect for self-drive adventures.
