Armenia - Oasis Highlights

There are so many highlights in this fascinating country that it is impossible to list them all here. Our travel consultants will discuss your interests and be able to put a specific itinerary together for you, but below are a few must seeā€™s!

Geghard Monastery

Geghard Monastery was inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000 and is one of only four such sites in the country. The monastery contains several churches and tombs, unique for the fact that many are cut directly into the mountain rock face. Gerhard represents the peak of medieval Armenian architectural achievement and comprises a walled complex set in stunning mountain scenery in the upper Azat Valley in Kotayk Province.

Vayots Dzor

The Vayots Dzor marz is in the centre of Armenia, with its largest urban centre, Yeghegnadzor, situated 123 km from Yerevan. Vayots Dzor has one of the most rugged landscapes in Armenia, with vegetation struggling to cling to the towering rock cliffs. Once teeming with forests, the upper slopes of the region are blanketed in alpine meadows, turning to a sea of grass and wildflowers in the spring and shades of burnt amber in the summer.

Gyumri

Characterised by lofty black-and-apricot architecture and a semi-abandoned Russian fortress, Gyumri is the second-largest city in Armenia and the capital of the Shirak Province in the northwestern part of the country. Being one of the most ancient settlements in Armenia with a history of 3000 years, Gyumri is a significant location to visit and admire.

Yerevan

Yerevan emerged as a city around the fortress Erebuni, founded in 782 BC by the Urartian King Argishti the First, and is considered to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, exuding a laid-back charm and appealing Russian edifices. Yerevan Erebuni was declared the Citadel of the Kingdom, serving as a religious and administrative centre and residence for The King and his family. Today over 1 million people call Yerevan their home.
