Eisenstadt

Austria - Lower Austria and Vienna

Despite its small size, Eisenstadt, a charming provincial capital located in the eastern region of Austria, has a lot to offer.

The former seat of the Esterházy noble family boasts a population of around 13,000 and is situated at the southern end of the Leitha Mountains, just a 50-minute drive from Vienna. One of the city’s most notable landmarks is the stunning Baroque Esterházy Palace. At the same time, other attractions include the Calvary Mountain, Martinsdom (St. Martin’s Cathedral) dating back to the 13th century, and the Gloriette. Visitors can also explore the historic old town with its pedestrianised zone filled with shops, cafes, and restaurants and admire the many listed buildings. For those who love wine, the districts of St. Georgen and Kleinhöflein are famous for their quaint Heurigen wine taverns. At the same time, the surrounding wine-growing region offers a plethora of culinary delights to enjoy.
