Bumthang Valley, often referred to as the spiritual heart of
Bhutan, is a region of stunning beauty and profound cultural significance.
Located in central Bhutan, Bumthang comprises four main valleys—Chokhor, Tang,
Ura, and Chhume—each offering its own unique charm and attractions.
The valleys are characterized by lush meadows, dense forests, and clear rivers, creating a picturesque landscape perfect for exploration. The region’s cool climate and fertile soil make it ideal for farming, with fields of buckwheat, rice, and potatoes, as well as apple orchards and dairy farms dotting the area.
Bumthang is renowned for its hand-woven textiles, particularly the yathra, a colourful woollen fabric. Jakar, the major town in the Bumthang region, can be cooler in the evenings due to the up-valley wind from the south every afternoon.
