to Punakha, Bumthang and Gelephu on

Trongsa holds a pivotal place in Bhutanese history. The majestic Trongsa Dzong, built in 1648, is one of the largest and most impressive dzongs in Bhutan. The dzong’s strategic location allowed it to control the east-west trade routes, making it a vital stronghold in Bhutan’s history. The town is also home to the Ta Dzong, a watchtower built to guard Trongsa Dzong. Today, it houses the Royal Heritage Museum, which offers fascinating insights into Bhutanese history, culture, and the Wangchuck dynasty.
