Trashigang (Auspicious Mountain) is a vibrant and culturally rich town nestled in the eastern part of the
country. As the largest district in Bhutan, Trashigang serves as a gateway to
the eastern regions, and makes a natural base for excursions north, south and
east.
Trashigang is home to several significant cultural landmarks. The Trashigang Dzong, perched on a hilltop overlooking the confluence of the Drangme Chhu and Gamri Chhu rivers, is one of the most impressive dzongs in Bhutan. Built in 1659, this fortress-monastery has played a crucial role in the region’s history and continues to be a center for religious and administrative activities. Very few tourists visit Eastern Bhutan, which makes it all the more magical.
