Chalalan Ecolodge is set deep in the Madidi National Park reached by a 50 minute flight from La Paz followed by a 4-5 hour boat trip up the Tuichi and Beni Rivers.
Rustic and remote it may be yet the Chalalan Ecolodge is set deep in the Madidi National Park, the most biodiverse reserve on earth. The park’s two million hectares encompass a huge range of landscapes from glacier-topped mountains and cloud-forest to cascading waterfalls and canyons which plunge into the Amazon basin and are home to a dizzying array of flora and fauna. Poised above the banks of the Chalalan Lagoon, the lodge was built with natural materials harvested from the forest and honours traditional Amazonian design. Housed in rustic cabins, the rooms are simple yet perfectly functional with netted beds and an outside verandah and hammock. All activities from bird-watching and swimming to night hikes and piranha fishing are included and each day guests head out on boat trips and guided walks led by local and naturalist guides to experience the surrounding forest. Meals are a simple yet hearty affair served in a large dining room within the main lodge. Owned and managed by the Uchupiamonas native community, the Chalalan Ecolodge is very isolated yet truly unique. Its mix of river, forest and savannah grassland provide arguably the best wildlife in the entire Amazon perfect for nature lovers.
