Kgalagadi

Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park located at the border of South Africa and Botswana was declared as Southern Africa’s first peace park between the two bordering countries by former South African President Thabo Mbeki and former President Festus Mogae of Botswana.

With stunning terrain of dunes with sparse trees, bushes and grasslands, the dry riverbeds allow Camelthorn and Acacia trees to grow.

Populated by predators – lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas, numerous herds of migratory animals – wildebeests, elands, hartebeests, springboks, gemsbok congregate in the park.

Two hundred species of birds have been recorded, including raptors, eagles, vultures, secretary birds, goshawks, falcons, kestrels and buzzards. The Kgalagadi Park is subjected to two seasons that are standard in Botswana. Wildlife viewing is best at the end of the wet summer season around March to April to May, and beginning of the dry winter season.
