Just south of Porto Seguro, Trancoso has become one of Brazil’s most fashionable beach destinations, a sleepy fishing village centered around a picture-postcard colonial church and grassy square. Below the village, miles upon miles of pristine, palm fringed beaches head off in either direction framed by Atlantic Rainforest. Yet the unspoilt coastline is only part of Trancoso’s appeal. Over the years, the town has filled with beautiful boutique hotels and guesthouses that have created a wonderfully laid-back Brazilian atmosphere. At night, bars and restaurants spill onto the main square as guests dine in candle light to the sound of the crashing ocean below. During the day, the village empties as visitors head off on horse-back along the beach, enjoy a game of golf on the cliff-top or simply sink into the golden sand.
