Chapada Diamantina

Brazil - Remote Brazil

Brazil’s “Lost World” of the Chapada Diamantina rises out of the landscape, a vast area of table-top “Chapada” mountains, cascading waterfalls and beautiful caves.

For hikers, this is one of Brazil’s most spectacular destinations and best explored on foot from the small colonial mining town of Lencois, some 500km inland from the picturesque Bahian coast,. There, trails lead off through forested valleys to breathtaking viewpoints where you can enjoy wonderful panoramic vistas. Travel further afield and you can snorkel through flooded caverns, swim under thunderous rapids or admire the magical atmosphere of the Poco Encantado cave where the afternoon sun turns the water an eerie electric blue.
