Santo Antao combines the dizzy heights of a vertical Island, punctuated with deep valleys and gorges carved out of volcanic rock. We can offer you the most exciting hiking experiences anywhere in Western African.
As it is the second largest island, as you approach this greenest of green islands by ferry to Sao Vincent, distinguished from the south side of the island which looks to the outsider as a harsh and barren landscape.
It’s deceiving because the northeast part of the island, is the most populated and most popular with hikers. Surprisingly receiving enough moisture for the forests of pine trees to dominate hilltops and substantial tropical plants to flourish in the steamy valleys. We suggest you visit the the northeast first, before heading on to the untravelled western reaches of this tropical paradise.
