WHY WE LIKE THIS HOTEL
Raffles le Royal is the premier hotel in Phnom Penh, a hotel with those rare attributes of both history and style. It was first established in 1929, and in its early heyday enjoyed an international clientele comprising globetrotters and adventurers, writers and journalists, royalty and dignitaries. It reopened in 1997, after a careful restoration and refurbishment program by Raffles International.
The 170 guest rooms, suites and executive apartments are tastefully appointed with Cambodian-style furnishings and objets d’art evoking a true colonial feel. The rooms are spread over three separate but interconnecting low-rise wings set around a garden courtyard and swimming pools. The main building has been beautifully restored and refurbished to its original architectural style. Each room comes equipped with all the modern facilities you might expect of any international standard deluxe five star hotel.
Guests have a choice of five distinctive restaurants and bars, serving international favourites, French fine dining and local Khmer specialities. A dress code (a jacket for men) applies in the fine dining restaurant. The Elephant Bar is one of the most famous bars in Southeast Asia and has been frequented by many a famous traveller over the decades. There is also an excellent spa.
In our opinion Le Royal is one of the finest hotels in the whole of Southeast Asia; it imparts an old-world charm through its style and decor, which is elegant yet comfortable and classic yet casual. Admittedly you do pay a little more but you truly get what you pay for, you will not be disappointed.
