Navigate the breathtaking islands, bays and glacier-topped fjords of Northern Patagonia and the Chonos archipelago to reach the magnificent Laguna San Rafael Glacier aboard the MV Skorpios II.

The M/V Skorpios II is a handsome expedition ship constructed in 1988 which offers wonderful cruises though the Patagonian fjords south of Puerto Montt to reach the awe-inspiring Laguna San Rafael Glacier. Designed to carry a maximum of 130 passengers, the Skorpios merges warm, wooden panels and traditional fittings with picture windows and allows open access to all areas including the engine room, bridge and galley. There are 55 simple, en suite cabins with plasma screen TV’s spread across 5 decks. The two lounge/restaurants deliver a classic service with an open bar and hearty Chilean meals.

The Skorpios II offers 5 night cruises to explore the wonderful wildlife and scenery of the Chonos archipelago departing Puerto Montt every Saturday. Upon arrival at the Laguna San Rafael, guests head out on smaller jet boats accompanied by expert local guides to navigate through the multi-coloured icebergs to reach the icy face of the glacier.

The latest itinerary is as follows:

Day 1, Saturday:
12.00 noon, weigh anchor from the Skorpios Terminal in Puerto Montt and sail through the Llanquihue archipelago catching sight of Calbuco and the islands of Chiloé. Cross the Corcovado Gulf at midnight.

Day 2, Sunday:
Navigate through the Moraleda and Ferronave channels to reach the fishing village of Puerto Aguirre before continuing on through the Pilcomayo and Costa channels. At night, the ship anchors at Hualas cove or Punta Leopardos, only 20 nautical miles from the San Rafael Glacier.

Day 3, Monday:
Enter the Laguna San Rafael Lagoon anchoring 2 km away from the Glacier. Boat excursions among multi-coloured icebergs approaching the face of the glacier if possible. In the evening, set sail to the Quitralco fjord.

Day 4, Tuesday:
Disembark at the Quitralco pier where guests can stretch their legs and enjoy the resident hot-springs. Weather permitting, you will enjoy boats excursions through the fjord. In the evening, you set sail towards Chiloe, navigating the Moraleda and Perez Norte channels.

Day 5, Wednesday:
Re-crossing the Corcovado Gulf, you will keep your eyes peeled for humpback and blue whales before arriving at Castro, regional capital of Chiloé. Disembark for a brief city visit before returning to Puerto Montt through the Lemuy, Dalcahue and Quicavi channels. Enjoy a farewell party on board the ship.

Day, 6 Thursday:
Disembark the Skorpios II after breakfast
