The M/N Skorpios III is a recent addition to the fleet, constructed in 1995 and which offers breathtaking cruises though the Patagonian fjords north of Puerto Natales at the far tip of Chile to reach the great southern icefield.
The ship carries a maximum of 90 passengers and features elegant communal spaces throughout. Large picture windows breathe light and warmth onto the traditional, wood beamed lounge/restaurant while guests are given free roam of the ship including access to the engine room, bridge and galley. There are 45 snug, en suite cabins with LCD TV’s spread across 5 decks. All are warmly furnished with picture windows bar those on the lower Atenas Deck.
The Skorpios III offers 3 night cruises to explore the wonderful wildlife and scenery of the southern icefield following the iconic Kaweskar route and departs Puerto Natales every Tuesday and Friday. Guests will have the chance to take a smaller launch to navigate through multi-coloured icebergs to reach the icy face of certain glaciers.
The latest itinerary is as follows:-
Day 1, Afternoon departure from Puerto Natales to navigate the Patagonian channels of Kirke Narrowness, Morla Vicuña, Union, Collinwood and Sarmiento.
Day 2, Visit the beautiful Amalia and El Brujo Glaciers and in the afternoon set sail to the Calvo Fjord where guests will take a smaller launch to observe the Fernando, Capitan Constantino and Alipio Glaciers.
Day 3, Cruise the ice alley of the Montañas Fjord where five glaciers tumble down the Sarmiento Mountains into the sea. Disembarking the boat, guests have the opportunity to hike to the base of the Bernal Glacier before re-embarking to navigate through the multi-coloured icebergs of the Herman Glacier (tide permitting). The cruise culminates with the Alsina and Paredes Glaciers before returning to Puerto Natales for a farewell dinner..
Day 4, Disembark the boat after breakfast.
