Put simply - Shanghai will take your breath away! Nowhere else in Asia will you find a city of greater contradictions, where old meets new and east meets west, where the remarkable 1930’s Art Deco colonial style architecture of The Bund - East Asia’s pre war “Pearl of the Orient” – faces off against the space age vista of modern, gleaming Pudong across the Huangpu River!
There is much to see and do in and around the city. It is widely accepted as the best place to shop and you will find everything from the latest electronic offerings to designer brands in the huge shopping malls of Nanjing Lu as well as local produce in the numerous smaller markets. Spend time exploring the famous peaceful tea house and gardens at the Yuyuan Gardens, listen to the infamous “Old China Jazz band” with afternoon tea at the art deco Peace Hotel or dine out at one of the many fine restaurants located all around the city.
Some of China’s finest hotels are also to be found in Shanghai – from the smaller boutique style to the large rather ostentatiously brash international chain hotels flagship properties! There are numerous museums, our favourites being The Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Centre (yes really!!!) and the wonderful Shanghai Art Museum.
