Jim and Jane’s journey through Sri Lanka was a blend of nature, culture, and bespoke experiences that went far beyond a typical holiday. From the moment they arrived, each day was filled with memorable encounters and moments tailored just for them. “The elephants were extraordinary,” Jane shared. “Seeing them swimming in Gal Oya was beyond anything I’d imagined – a beautiful and intimate experience.” Throughout their trip, unexpected wildlife encounters added to the charm, including a surprise meeting with a four-foot crocodile lounging on the path to the hotel gym!

With their own private driver, Jim and Jane had the flexibility to adjust their itinerary, discovering hidden gems and avoiding the crowds.

“Having our driver with us the entire trip brought so much local insight. We even had the chance to walk the famous Nine Arches Bridge without other tourists around – an incredible moment thanks to his connections,” Jim recalled.

One highlight was their tour of a tea plantation in Ella, where they dressed in traditional outfits, strapped baskets over their shoulders, and tried their hands at picking leaves alongside local workers. “After trying to pick tea for twenty minutes, I knew I’d never make a career out of it,” Jim laughed. Their efforts culminated in a tasting session, where they learned the delicate art of blending teas. “Each blend had its own story and flavour profile, which added a whole new dimension to the experience,” Jane added.

Their stays were just as remarkable. At Water Garden Sigiriya, they dined with views of the Sigiriya Rock Fortress and were delighted by the peacocks that wandered nearby. At FlameBack Lodge in Yala, the eco-friendly luxury and outstanding cuisine impressed them at every turn. “The accommodations were superb – each location offered something unique and unforgettable,” Jim said.
