WHY WE LIKE THIS HOTEL

A grand, stately hotel that evokes the rich colonial history of Popayan, the Hotel Dann Monasterio was once part of a Franciscan monastery that dated back to the 1570’s. Elegant cloisters encircle a large, cobbled terrace amidst well- tended gardens and a tinkling fountain while inside, the hotel exudes formal elegance with classic period décor and artwork. The rooms are all perfectly in keeping with the historic ambiance (some even occupying the original monks’cells) yet feature the standard mod-cons including flat-screen TV’s and internet access. There are generous communal areas including the Campanario Restaurant, the height of refined elegance, which serves a mix of regional and international cuisine. Additional facilities include a gym, steam room, spa and large pool ringed with sun-loungers – the only hotel in Popayan with an outdoor pool as they are proud to claim! The Hotel Dann Monasterio is the most comfortable hotel in town and the epitome of Popayan with its a heady feast of colonial history. The service is rather formal and the rooms on the cosy side yet the setting is second to none right at the heart of town.
