Kopacki Rit Nature Park

Croatia - Slavonia

The wetland area surrounding the confluence of the Drava and Danube rivers near Osijek, is covered by a park that spans 238 hectares.

This area has remained intact since ancient times due to its inaccessibility. Kopački rit is one of Europe’s largest natural wetlands and has been recommended for inclusion in the UNESCO List of Natural Heritage. Kopački rit is well-known for its large herds of deer but has equally large herds of wild boar. While there are other mammals in the park, the most numerous are birds, with a total of 300 different species. The park is home to rare and protected species, such as the white-tailed eagle and black stork.
