Kutjevo, located in the fertile Požega ‘golden’ valley of continental Croatia, is renowned as the capital of wine.
The town is nestled on the southern slopes of Krndija and Papuk in a narrow valley of KutjevÄanka. The famous wine cellar of Kutjevo stores archival wine, such as the Kutjevo GraÅ”evina, Pinot Gris, White Pinot, Traminer, and Riesling. Adjacent to the cellar and winery complex is the beautiful Kutjevo castle, connected to the winery via an underground passage. The castle was once home to the famous Baron Franjo Trenk and Empress Maria Theresa. KutjevaÄko Vincelovo, a traditional and highly visited wine event, marks the start of the grape harvest. The square, Trg graÅ”evine, in the town centre, is where Slavonian sausages and bacon are grilled and enjoyed alongside Kutjevo’s famous wines. The stage echoes the music of tambourines and the songs of visiting acapella groups.
