The Santa Lucia is a charming colonial hotel within walking distance of Cuenca’s colonial moments. Constructed in 1859 and beautifully restored, the hotel is awash with antique furniture, dark-polished woods and old world charm. At its heart, hand-carved balconies overlook a leafy interior courtyard that embraces an hundred year old tree. The rooms are admittedly a touch bland yet the sumptuous decor of the communal areas such as the lounge (pictured) more than compensates. The hotel caters to groups and independent travellers alike and prides itself on its elegant yet friendly service.
