Famed for the decisive victory over the Axis forces in the WWII North African campaign, El-Alamein is located half-way between Alexandria and Marsa Matruh on the Egyptian North Coast.
Today, it is home to several large war memorials, including the British Memorial, the German Memorial and the Italian Memorial and other landmarks reminiscent of this vital part of the town’s history.
Visit the War Museum to the west of the town where you can see stages of the North African campaign using electronic displays, and many World War Two mementoes, including tanks and artillery used during the battles, are on display in the grounds.
