There are so many highlights in this fascinating country that it is impossible to list them all here. Our travel consultants will discuss your interests and be able to put a specific itinerary together for you, but below are a few must see’s!
Brighton
Quirky and cute, Brighton may seem like a typical British seaside resort, but delve below the surface, and you’ll discover vintage shopping, diverse cuisine, health and sustainability at the forefront while still offering plenty of pubs for a cheeky afternoon tipple. Explore Brighton Palace Pier’s Victorian history and modern-day delights, search the boho boutiques of its cute shopping street, The Lanes, or experience a bird’s eye perspective of the coastline from 450ft above the ground on Brighton i360.
Oxford
Affectionately named the City of Dreaming Spires, the medieval metropolis of Oxford revolves around its prestigious university, established in the 12th century. While it’s certainly popular for its scholarly history, there’s so much more to Oxford than meets the eye. Whether it’s visiting the UK’s first public museum, punting on the River Cherwell or learning about Alice Liddell – the real Alice in Wonderland.
Bath
Bath wears its colourful history on its sleeve, so prepare to be dazzled. You’ll feel you could be in a horse-drawn carriage trotting past curves of honey-coloured townhouses like Georgian gentry or reclining with lazy Romans in a colonnaded public bath. Plenty is bubbling below this elegant Somerset city’s surface, not just the ancient thermal springs. There are Victorian parks to roam, medieval abbeys to scale, and dreamy punts along the River Avon. You’ll feel like a fully-fledged ‘Bathonian’ once you have raided Upper Town’s boutiques or cheered on the local rugby team.
Cotswolds
The Cotswolds covers a huge area – almost 800 square miles – and runs through five counties (Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Wiltshire and Worcestershire). One delight of visiting the Cotswolds is exploring the different areas, each with its own identity, yet all with those defining Cotswolds features golden stone and rolling hills, the ‘Wolds’.
Stratford-upon-Avon
Visit Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace and long-term residence of William Shakespeare. Immerse yourself in everything Shakespeare in this riverside market town. Start your days in the company of the Bard with a nose behind the scenes at his timbered birthplace museum or his wife’s quaint thatched cottage. Once you’ve set the scene, you’ll be ready for comedies and tragedies at the Royal Shakespeare theatres. If after this you’ve had your fill of ‘Bardolatry’, or Shakespeare worship, then there are gardens to explore, days at the races, hikes in the Warwickshire countryside, and Avon boat cruises to enjoy. Stratford-upon-Avon will teach you differences.
Yorkshire Dales
The Yorkshire Dales is home to outstanding scenery, great castles, abbeys and a breathtakingly peaceful atmosphere. At its heart are two very special protected areas – Yorkshire Dales National Park and Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) – as well as it has the Forest of Bowland AONB and North Pennines AONB as its close neighbours.
