Gjógv, located on the northernmost tip of Eysturoy, is a picturesque village that derives its name from a stunning 200-meter-long sea-filled gorge that flows from the town into the ocean.
This village was nominated for the Nature & Environmental Award by the Nordic Council in 2014 and for good reason. Mountains on all sides surround the village, with less than 50 inhabitants living in well-preserved, old, timber-walled and turf-roofed cottages. The village has a unique charm and appeal that is hard to resist. In addition, Gjógv offers some great hiking and walking trails that offer breathtaking views of the North Atlantic and the surrounding islands. A charming tea shop, a guesthouse (Gjáargarður), and a campsite are all part of the village, making it a perfect destination for nature lovers. Gjógv is approximately an hour’s drive from Tórshavn, making it an easily accessible location.
