One of the Galapagos’ most remote islands and often overlooked by cruises, Genovesa is a huge horse-shoe bay and sunken crater that teems with bird life. From the pristine coral beach of Darwin Bay, a trail leads past tidal lagoons to a viewpoint overlooking colonies of frigate birds and one of the largest and only nesting sites of the red-footed booby. From the island’s second visitor site “Prince Philip’s Steps” named in honour of the Duke of Edinburgh who visited the islands in the 1960’s, visitors have the chance to observe short-eared owls, lava gulls, Nasca boobies and even fur seals.
