Kutaisi

Kutaisi, the capital of Imereti, is Georgia’s second-largest city. Elegant, tree-lined streets with 19th-century houses stretch down to the banks of the Rioni River, along with several attractive parks, making Kutaisi a lovely place to stroll around and take in the many sights

. Spend time in the Green Bazaar—one of the most vibrant marketplaces in the Caucasus, where you will find excellent food and love Kutaisi’s charming cafes. Just outside Kutaisi in Chiatura, ride a 1950s-era cable car built on the orders of Stalin. In the Jewish Quarter experience, several synagogues demonstrating the long history of the Georgian Jewish community and visiting the magnificent churches of Bagrati and Gelati, both UNESCO world heritage sites, testify to the region’s importance.
