Jungle Lodge is a long-standing visitor favourite ideally located right at the entrance to Tikal Archaeological Park some 10 minutes’ walk from the ruins themselves and an hour by car from the airport at nearby Flores.

WHY WE LIKE THIS HOTEL

Location, location, location! Set amidst dense tropical rainforest, Jungle Lodge has long been a base in one form or another for Tikal archaeological studies and blends seamlessly into the surrounding forest with tropical gardens attracting a host of birds and wildlife. The rooms are dotted throughout the resort and range from simple backpacker-style units (which we don’t recommend) to more spacious and tasteful guest-rooms and suites which occupy white-washed cottages within the lush gardens. The Panela Restaurant delivers a good mix of national and international dishes as well as buffet lunches for groups. More casual dining is also available within the hotel’s Xultun Bar. Other facilities include a Games Room and sparkling temple-shaped pool. Jungle Lodge is admittedly popular with tour groups but here, Tikal sits at centre stage where you can experience the hugely atmospheric Mayan site at both sunrise and sunset.
