Surrounded by thick rainforest that tumbles down to the shores of Lake Petén Itzá, La Lancha is a charming Francis Ford Coppola-owned lodge. Centred around a traditional, palapa-topped restaurant, reception and bar, La Lancha melds into the surroundings jungle with elegant wooden walkways that wind down the hill past the rooms and on to the lake shore. The rooms overlook the lake or the tropical forest and are all stylish yet unfussy with fresh bright interiors adorned with local artwork, elegant wooden furniture and vibrant Mayan textiles to add a dash of colour. La Lancha restaurant offers delicious and traditional Guatemalan fare with views across Lake Petén Itzá. The lodge is an excellent base for exploring the nearby Mayan sites such as Tikal and Yaxha or simply winding down amidst glorious jungle beside the attractive two-tiered pool. It is also renowned for its wildlife and you can spot a wonderful array of birdlife as well as howler monkeys that flit amongst the trees.
