WHY WE LIKE THIS HOTEL

Pretty terraced gardens and sweeping, uninterrupted views across the water, the Hotel Atitlan is among the most popular options on lake Atitlan. A former coffee plantation, Hotel Atitlan retains the feel of a colonial hacienda with tiled floors topped with high beamed ceilings awash with antique furniture, period heirlooms and regional fabrics to add a splash of colour. The rooms are traditionally furnished with colourful textiles and hard-carved pieces yet spacious overlooking the gardens and lake through their own terrace or balcony. The hotel offers both inside and outside dining on the poolside terrace and delivers a mix of regional and international flavours with ingredients sourced locally. Hotel Atitlan has its own docks for boat trips as well as glorious botanical gardens ablaze with orchids, bougainvillea and azaleas. In the evening, there is no better spot than the handsome pool and jacuzzi which overlook Toliman and San Pedro Volcanoes on the far shores of the lake. Admittedly Hotel Atitlan is a bit dated and rooms spartan in feel but the setting and grounds are picturesque. It is popular with groups but it remains excellent value for money and an ideal base for exploring the area.
