Located just a short distance from Iceland’s capital, Akranes is the largest town in West Iceland, with a population of 7,421.

The Museum Area at Gardar is a hub of cultural activity and a popular tourist destination. Nearby, visitors can enjoy the highly-regarded 18-hole Gardavollur golf course and the Gardalundur outdoor area, which boasts a playground suitable for children of all ages. Swimming enthusiasts will appreciate the Jadarsbakki pool, just a few minutes from the Museum Area. For those interested in photography or exploring new things in Iceland, visiting the Akranes lighthouses is a must. Along the harbour, two lighthouses can be found. The larger one, currently in use, is open to the public and offers breathtaking views. Additionally, there is a photography exhibition on display. Langisandur Beach provides a beautiful backdrop for swimming, building sandcastles, and soaking up the scenery. Visitors can also experience the Guðlaug hot pool, nestled in the rock garden at Langisandur.
