Valagil is a breathtaking gorge with a magnificent waterfall formed by countless layers of ancient lava.

Located at the landward end of Álftafjörður, not too far from Súðavík, the ravine can be accessed via a marked footpath from the road. While some believe the ravine was named after the falcons (valur in Icelandic) that used to nest there, others claim it was named after Vala, a woman who supposedly fell to her death in the gully hundreds of years ago.
