Founded in 1639 by the British, Chennai (formally known as Madras) is located on India’s south east coast bordering the Bay Of Bengal.

Over the years this once small British settlement has grown dramatically taking over surrounding villages and the neighbouring Portuguese Settlement to become India’s 4th largest city and the capital of Tamil Nadu state. The city consists of several small districts which include George Town to the north, Anna Salai in the South West, Egmore & Central Chennai. As far as first impressions go, Chennai is a large smoggy city, however spend some time to delve beyond that and you’ll find friendly locals and an array of cultural sites to explore – The British built Government Museum is particular worth a visit.
