Located in the heart of the Nilgiri Hills region, Ooty was established at the start of the 19th Century by the British and is the most well-known of south Indiaā€™s hill stations.

Part of Ootyā€™s attraction is getting there, the journey whether you do it by travelling on the blue mountain railway from Mettupalayam (highly recommended!) or by bus, is a spectacular one with simply stunning views across the mountains. As well as being a great base to enjoy the local trekking opportunities the town itself has plenty of attractions to explore including St Stephenā€™s Church, the botanical gardens and the interesting Tribal research centre museum.
