Located in the heart of the Nilgiri Hills region, Ooty was established at the start of the 19th Century by the British and is the most well-known of south India’s hill stations.

Part of Ooty’s attraction is getting there, the journey whether you do it by travelling on the blue mountain railway from Mettupalayam (highly recommended!) or by bus, is a spectacular one with simply stunning views across the mountains. As well as being a great base to enjoy the local trekking opportunities the town itself has plenty of attractions to explore including St Stephen’s Church, the botanical gardens and the interesting Tribal research centre museum.
