Encompassing an area of over 750 square kilometres the Periyar National Park is located amongst dense forest in the heart of the Cardomorn Hills.
The park is home to a range of wildlife including Elephants, bison, wild boar, Sambor and a small number of tigers. Thekkady is the closest township to the National Park and thrives in its spice trade with crops including pepper, cinnamon, ginger, curry leaves and turmeric. Guided walks through the spice plantations are available and highly recommended in addition to spending time exploring the national park.
