Dublin
Welcome to Dublin, a city that’s as intimate as a village and as friendly as an Irish pub. Framed by mountains, centred on a river and edged by a beautiful bay, the city’s streets and alleys are filled with vibrant art and historic buildings, hip cafés and traditional “old man” pubs, as Dubliners call them. Walk the streets and you’ll feel the energy of over 1,000 years of history, as echoes of the Vikings mix with buzzing boutiques, cobbled streets reverberate with the sounds of buskers, and 18th century parks play host to festivals, film and food markets
Limerick
A limerick is a five-line verse, either smart or silly, popularised by Edward Lear in the 19th century – but there’s nothing silly about County Limerick. It contains variety, humour and history all in the same place. Sitting at the mouth of the River Shannon, Limerick City is the third largest urban centre on the island. It’s also the hardest to pin down – it formed a bleak backdrop to Frank McCourt’s autobiography Angela’s Ashes. Still, nowadays, it’s a revitalised city full of art galleries, slick new hotels and the legendary Thomond Park, the home of Munster’s passionate rugby union team.
Cork
This breezy, cosmopolitan spot in Ireland’s southwest inspires a devotion in its locals that few other places can rival. And it’s easy to see why. Sitting proudly on an island in the middle of the River Lee, Cork’s feelgood buzz surges through its hip coffee shops, vibrant art galleries, off-beat museums and seriously good pubs. Despite being a city, there’s a decidedly towny feel here – life is laidback, nothing is too much hassle.
Waterford
Located in Ireland’s Ancient East, Waterford has a little bit of everything. Packed into this coastal county is a bustling city, with stunning beaches, an epic mountain range, and quaint seaside towns and villages. Waterford is a place that keeps its proud history alive, and no wonder – after all, this is one of the oldest cities on the island of Ireland, having been founded by the Vikings in 914.
