Explore the museums of San Jose and the Central Market at your own pace.
Day 3-4
Tortuguero National Park
Travel overland to the Tortuguero National park, where the canals are a haven for wildlife. Take boat trips to see crocodiles, sloths, toucans and more. Tortuguero’s charm lies in its isolation. With no cars and only footpaths and waterways, it’s a peaceful escape into pure nature.
Day 5-7
Arenal Volcano
Travel overland to Arenal. A fascinating area at the foot of the Arenal volcano, there are naturally heated thermal baths, waterfalls, rainforest and great hiking trails. During your time here, take a hiking excursion and go kayaking on the Penas Blancas river to spot wildlife.
Day 8-9
Monteverde Cloudforest
Journey overland by road and boat to the Monteverde Cloudforest – an area where you may be lucky enough to spot the beautiful Resplendent Quetzal. Take an excursion in the cloudforest, and get a bird’s eye view from the hanging bridges and ziplining excursion.
Day 10-12
Osa Peninsula
Transfer to San Jose and fly down to the remote Osa Peninsula. Remote, rugged and absolutely worth the effort, much of the Osa Peninsula in blanketed in dense rainforest and it is considered one of the most biodiverse places on Earth. Spend your time exploring the area.
Day 13-15
Boquete
Transfer overland from the Osa Peninsula to the town of Boquete in the Chiriqui highlands in Western Panama. Explore the area, learn about the coffee plantations, go hiking, and white-water rafting during your time here.
Day 16-18
Bocas del Toro
Travel overland by road and boat to the Bocas del Toro Archipelago. Enjoy the turquoise waters, snorkelling and relaxing in the stunning surroundings.
Day 19-21
Panama City
Fly over to Panama City and explore both the new downtown area and the historic Casco Viejo quarter. Visit the Miraflores locks to learn about the Panama Canal. Spend time with the Indigenous Embera community learning about their way of life and get hands-on during a Panamanian cooking class.

Costa Rica enjoys a tropical climate year round which can be divided into a distinct dry and rainy season. The dry “summer” period runs from December to April and is the most popular time to travel. The wet season then corresponds from May to December and coincides with tempestuous downpours. Average temperatures range between 26°-28° throughout the year although it is obviously cooler in the highlands along the spine of the mountains.
