Muscat

Today, Explore the captivating port city of Muscat. Here you can select different ways and tours to discover the elegance of this Middle Eastern capital. Wander around the marvellous Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, a stunning example of contemporary Islamic architecture containing the world’s second-largest hand-loomed Iranian carpet.

Or visit the National Museum of Oman, showcasing the nation’s heritage from the earliest human settlement in the Oman Peninsula some two million years ago to the present day. And end the day with a sunset cruise. Muscat truly has so much to offer.

Day 4

Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve

Leave the city behind you and travel east toward Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve. Along the way, choose from many amazing destinations, including Quriyat, a lovely fishing village with amazing history, Bimmah Sinkhole, Wadi Tiwi, and Sur, with its fine corniche, two forts, souqs and excellent beaches nearby. Tonight, you can decide to walk across the sands, where you will see the ghostly silhouettes of green turtles emerging from the surf.

Day 5

Wahiba Sands

South of Ibra stretches the magnificent Wahiba Sands. This is the desert youā€™ve always imagined, sculpted by the wind into delicately moulded crests and hollows. There are no permanent settlements, although some local Bedu live in ramshackle temporary camps on the southern fringes of the sands around Al Ashkharah. Here, you can relax by your camp, take a camel ride, or for the more adventurous, off-road quad biking and sand surfing is available.

Day 6-8

Hajar Mountains

Today’s journey takes you to the dramatic Hajar mountainous region, one of Oman’s biggest tourist attractions. For the next two days, you can choose several tour options. Visit the traditional villages of Saiq, Al Aqr, Al Ayn in the Ad Dakhiliyah region, the most well-known agricultural area in Jabal Akhdar, or Hike Around Jabal Shams. And at night, go stargazing with your private guide or enjoy a candlelit dinner with some of the most spectacular views.

Day 9

Nizwa

At the foot of the Western Hajar Mountains lies Nizwa. The town offers amazing tour options. Visit Nizwa Fort with its imposing sandstone structure has been added to and adapted ever since. Search out the metal spikes, booby traps and ā€˜murder holesā€™ that made Nizwa impenetrable. Make your way to the rooftop, where dozens of cannons would have once stood, for excellent city views. If you are an early riser, explore the Nizwa Souk, one of the country’s oldest. And if itā€™s a Friday, you can select to visit the fresh produce and livestock market.

Day 10

Muscat

Head down the mountains today and start your journey back to Muscat. Choose to stop at some of the most amazing cultural landmarks Oman offers. Visit the town of Jabreen, home to Jabreen Castle, built in 1670 as a beautiful palace for the Imam and his family, showcasing authentic Omani craftsmanship. Or the sights of Bahla, renowned for its ancient UNESCO-protected Bahla Fort and handmade pottery.

Day 11-15

Salalah

Salalah is an amazing city full of diversity; here, you can relax at your resort and spend time reading a book on Ad Dahariz Beach, one of the most popular beaches, or take the opportunity to explore the region with several tour options. Choose to explore the city itself from the Central Market, the Mabi Umran Tomb, and the Clock Tower, the tallest structure in the city. From the Garden Mall to the place of the Sultan.

The winter months are a delightful time to visit Oman, when the air is clear, the nights are cool, and the daytime temperatures rarely rise above 30Ā°C. There is some rain, but any showers are short and sharp. Visitors are guaranteed warm and dry weather in the autumn and spring months, with temperature averaging in the mid-thirties. The summer months are best avoided, when heat soars to 54Ā°C and the humidity is stifling.

There is a multitude of add-on holiday options to this Oman itinerary; for example, you could head to the magnificent beach and mountains of Khasab in Musandam, just a few hours drive from Dubai.
