WHY WE LIKE THIS HOTEL

The Quinta Chanabnal reflects a labour of love between the Mexican-Italian owners who have dedicated themselves to recreating a luxurious royal residence with 21st century comfort set against historically accurate friezes and carvings. Within the tropical grounds, waterfalls tumble amongst rocks into a lagoon while colourful birds flit amongst the forest canopy. The spacious suites are beautifully appointed dressed in dark wood and terracotta stone floors and each a feature an outside terrace overlooking the forest. The restaurant takes shelter in a giant palapa and among the dishes, you can expect to find Mayan specialties such as beef tongue in a chipotle chili sauce and rabbit accompanied with achiote, garlic, squash and sweet chili. The hotel is in easy reach of Palenque and guided tours can be arranged locally. Stay an extra night and you can head to the sites of Yaxchilan, Bonampak or Tonina or to the sparkling waterfalls of Agua Azul or Misol-ha. The area is rich in wildlife and you might like to head into the jungle with a naturalist guide or simply bird-watch from the comfort of the pool.
