Moldova - Oasis Highlights

There are so many highlights in this fascinating country that it is impossible to list them all here. Our travel consultants will discuss your interests and be able to put a specific itinerary together for you, but below are a few must see’s!

Orheiul Vechi

Orheiul Vechi boasts an array of cave monasteries, churches, ancient and medieval ruins, and stunning natural rock formations. Captivating landscapes and intriguing legends surround this enigmatic place. Located just 45-50 minutes from the capital city of Chisinau, Orheiul Vechi is a must-visit destination for Moldova’s visitors. While a day trip from Chisinau is possible, we recommend staying overnight in Butuceni or Trebujeni villages. By doing so, you’ll get a chance to fully immerse yourself in the history, natural beauty, and warm hospitality of this charming central Moldova region.

Chisinau

Chisinau is a city in transition, with new and old buildings side by side. Many older buildings were built during Soviet times in a functional style typical of that era. But Chisinau abounds in architectural masterpieces, many of which were designed by the famous Russian architect Alexandru Bernardazzi. Chisinau is a green city, with lots of trees along its streets and boulevards that are particularly beautiful during spring and summer. May is perfect for walking under the scent of blooming acacia. Stefan cel Mare Central Park, Valea Morilor and the Stefan cel Mare Public Garden are good places to dodge the heat during summer or go on fall walks.

Lake Beleu

Lake Beleu, the largest lake in Moldova, is considered by UNESCO as one of the habitats that should be preserved for their biodiversity. Located in the Prutul de Jos reserve in the Cahul district of southern Moldova, the lake is spectacular, especially when its white and yellow water lilies are in full bloom. Aside from the water lilies, pelicans are also a popular attraction in the area. Thousands flock to the lake, searching for food. For pelican enthusiasts, staying overnight in a tent by the lakeshore to witness the birds during sunrise is recommended. After their meal, many fly towards the Danube for more feeding and return late at night.
