Modes of transport

Road
Roads in Montenegro are in great condition, and they are all free except a tunnel road. Their quality is monitored, and roads regularly go through repairs if required. But some older roads between smaller towns (or in the mountains) are very narrow, and driving on them is not for the faint-hearted. we recommend a driver.

Air
There are no domestic flights in Montenegro.

Rail
Northern Montenegrin railway goes high through breathtaking mountains, making it a tourist attraction. The line from Podgorica to Kolasin goes over the bridge over Mala Rijeka, the highest railway bridge in Europe. It is one of the favourite spots for base jumping. Montenegro has a railway line connecting Bar, located on the Montenegro coast, and Belgrade (the capital of Serbia). As it belongs to the European railway network, arriving in Montenegro by train from any place in Europe is possible. The terminal stop is Bar, and the cities the train goes through are Podgorica, Kolasin, Mojkovac and Bijelo Polje.

Ferry
Montenegro Lines is the naval company that connects Montenegro to Italy with a regular service all over the year. The fleet is made of ships “Sveti Stefan I” and “Sveti Stefan II” connecting the italian ports of Bari and Ancona to the port of Bar in Montenegro.

 

Food

The servings in Montenegro are huge and delicious, so make sure you loosen your belt when dining here. The food is fresh, organic and flavoursome.

Drinking water

Overall, tap water in Montenegro is considered safe to drink, as it meets the European Unionā€™s strict water quality standards.

 

Visas

On an Australian passport, You can stay for up to 90 days in 6 months without a tourist visa from the date of entry into Montenegro.

 

Money

The local currency is the Euro. ATMs accept cards with Plus, Cirrus or Maestro access. They are widely available.
