Mozambique - Oasis Highlights

There are so many highlights in this fascinating country that it is impossible to list them all here. Our travel consultants will discuss your interests and be able to put a specific itinerary together for you, but below are a few must seeā€™s!

Gorongosa National Park

The Gorongosa National Park is at the southern end of the African Rift Valley, covering 3770 square kilometres. This park lies in the heart of Mozambique.

The park hosts several ecosystems, including grasslands, savannahs, miombo, montane forests, rainforests, and dry forests on sands. The park has an exciting history and compelling stories. In the early years, it was just an attraction where people used to survey by aerial vehicles. It has seen massive destruction in the beginning, but today the park is in the state of a planned recovery. Animal populations are on the rise, including lions, buffalos, wildebeest, zebra, waterbuck, impala, hippos, sable and elands, and over 500 species of birds, some of which are endemic to the park.

Bazaruto Archipelago

The Bazaruto Archipelago consists of five idyllic islands: Bazaruto, Benguerra, Magaruque, Santa Carolina and Bangue. The Archipelago is genuinely one of the most beautiful destinations on the African continent. The area is now protected as a conservation area and national park, including the coral reefs surrounding the islands, making it the only official marine reserve in the country. The park is one of the largest in the Indian Ocean and a significant achievement in global marine conservation. One hundred elusive dugongs, three species of turtles and many dolphins inhabit the waters. Up to 178 species of birds and a small Nile crocodile colony live on Benguerra Island. Small antelopes, duiker, suni, squirrels, samango monkeys, snakes, bushbucks and flamingos also share this little Eden.

Quirimbas Archipelago

The Quirimbas Archipelago stretches from Pemba to the Rovuma River, which forms a border between Tanzania and Mozambique. The archipelago encompasses 32 tropical coral islands and has an enormous cultural and historical value, influenced by Arabian, Portuguese and African cultures. This scattering of islands encapsulates all you can dream of magnificent beaches, friendly islanders, coral reefs, abundant marine and bird life and crumbling colonial towns.
