North Macedonia - Oasis Highlights

Skopje

Skopje is a charming city with plenty to offer. Its sights from the Ottoman and Byzantine eras are concentrated in the delightful Čaršija area, which has been bordered by the Kameni Most (Stone Bridge) since the 15th century and the Tvrdina Kale Fortress, which has been the city’s protector since the 5th century. Make sure to experience the excellent eating and drinking scene in Debar Maalo, a beautiful tree-lined neighbourhood. Although Skopje has always been a modest Balkan city known for its vibrant local life, the past decade has seen its centre transformed into a peculiar set design for an ancient civilisation.

Ohrid

The city of the immortal Ohrid is the sublime lakeside point that, for many, represents the culmination of the Macedonian experience, a kingdom of light and water, a repository of ancient ruins from Macedonia’s earlier kingdoms. Ohrid’s major attractions are located within a remarkably concentrated and eminently walkable area, among and above the narrow streets of the Old Town lined with restaurants and cafés ideally suited for relaxing in the cool summer evenings. Ohrid’s many café bars and nightclubs also make for a vibrant nightlife. As for the lake itself, it is so large and so deep that one might mistake it for a small sea. A full range of water sports, fishing, and boating is available, and numerous churches alongside Ohrid’s lake shores make for fascinating side trips and walks.

Dojran

Dojran, located in Eastern North Macedonia, is a precious gem. This town comprises two fisherman’s villages – Nov Dojran, settled between World War I and World War II, and Star Dojran, which boasts a mix of ancient ruins and modern buildings, including hotels, resorts, and restaurants.
