Guzelyurt

Cyprus - Classic Cyprus

GĆ¼zelyurt is situated close to the foothills of the Troodos Mountains and is the most fertile agricultural area on the island, and the main citrus and strawberry growing area of Cyprus.

This bustling Saturday market is the perfect place to see the abundance this area provides and apart from the citrus, producers bring freshly harvested organic, dates, walnuts, apricots, and pomegranates. It also gives you a chance to savour several restaurants are serving local food of kebabs and pide, the famous Cypriot style pizza.

Visit the GĆ¼zelyurt Archeological and Natural History Museum. In the downstairs area are natural history exhibits, including strange mutant lambs, but the upper floor has fascinating wonders, noticeably the ā€˜Golden Treasure of Soli.ā€™ Discovered in 2005, the degree of craftsmanship in the delicate gold ornaments is a sight to behold and will justify a visit as many of the finds from Toumba Tou Skouru, and the Pighades Sanctuary can be seen here.
